March 9th, 2009 SW Update. The Umpqua River from Winchester Bay to Scottsburg was high and muddy over the weekend. The ocean and bar were extremely hazardous to boaters due to a hazardous seas warning. When viewing the bar and ocean from the Umpqua lighthouse overlook on Sunday, I noticed that the conditions were so rough that the ocean water was brown-colored in some areas.
